Chop It Off - Embracing the Bob

10:40 AM

Let us start by saying we have not chopped off our lower-back-length red locks into a blunt bob (although the though has certainly crossed our minds a time or two).  Once upon a time we attempted to have our hair cut into a beautiful red version of this:

Chop It Off - Angelina Jolie Platinum Blonde Bob
Angelina Jolie sports a platinum blonde, perfectly coifed do in the movie Life or Something Like It which inspired one of our the worst hair disasters of our lives...if only it had turned out like this photo.

Alas, it was simply not meant to be, probably because 1) we were 16 and allowed a friend of the family who was supposedly amazing (he was not) the honor of sculpting our locks with scissors (worst idea we've ever made when it came to our hair), 2) we were under the impression that all curls are created equal and since we have curly hair and Angelina Jolie has curly hair for this character that it will look the same (not true).  So when our not-so-master stylist snipped away at our wet locks, needless to say when it dried our hair sprung up to not-quite-ear length and did not look like the photo in the slightest bit.  We were upset?  Lets just say that it was the only haircut we have ever cried over.  Had we had someone to show us how to style it differently it may have been workable but in the lack of that we ended up chopping it completely off into a Halle Berryesque pixie cut, but that is an entirely different story.  Anyway, our point is that bob haircuts in a variety of shapes and styles have always captivated our attention.  We can appreciate that there is risk and (god forbid) you could potentially end up with an epic failure of a cut...or the best haircut you've ever had in your life.  Just like fashion in general, personal style is all about taking risks.  Being different.  So with Fall just around the corner (crazy right??), we'd like to propose you maybe take a risk yourself and embrace the timeless and always so chic bob.

Chop It Off - Amanda Seyfried Bob Hairstyle
Amanda Seyfried's character in the movie In Time takes being a redhead to a whole new level with this blunt chin length bob and bangs.

We have to admit, Amanda Seyfried in the movie In Time almost had us booking an appointment with our stylist.  We hadn't really seen a redhead bob that stuck out this much in a long time.  Or maybe ever.  It's beautiful, dramatic and certainly head-turning.  Can we have the outfit too?

Chop It Off - Anna Wintor Blunt Bob
One of the most recognizable faces in fashion, Anna Wintor has been rocking the blunt bangs and bob for years but we've never thought it looked old or out of style.

Anna Wintor has been sporting the same haircut since the beginning of time - a testament to the timelessness of the style.  Ever so chic either dressed up or down (but lets be honest, how many times have we seen Anna Wintor dressed down?), this blunt bob and bangs is like a Chanel 2.55 handbag:  a classic that will always look amazing.

Chop it Off - Bob Hairstyles Victoria Beckham
Although Victoria Beckham is something of a chameleon when it comes to her hair, we love this angled bob on her - so chic and the perfect accent to her beautifully structured face.

Victoria Beckham is one of those women who went through an amazing style transformation and came out for the better.  One incredibly hot husband and four beautiful children later, she has embraced different styles, cuts and colors when it comes to her hair and while we love her long, wavy locks, we also think this layered, angled bob was one of the chicest styles she's ever worn.

Still not feeling quite brave enough to cut off all your hair?  We have two suggestions:  1) go to a wig store (or a costume shop if you can't find a wig shop) and ask to try on a few bob styles to get a feel if you like the look on you.  It's a risk-free way to get a feel for what you would look like.  2) Blunt bangs.  If you want a change but not quite that big of a change, then a short fringe is a perfect commitment-phob way of doing things - an easy way to make a big difference that grows out in a short period of time.

Thank you to FanPop, Madeline Tait, Care for Hair and Hairstyle Ideas for the photos!
