Beyonce

Rihanna's Met Gala Vogue Cover Win

7:51 AM

There's no denying that Beyonce is hot.  While we think that her music is sometimes questionable (Surfboard?  Really?), there's no argument that her body (specifically that booty) is inspiration for both men and women all over the place.  Most of the time Beyonce pulls off red carpet looks just fine, although, if we're being honest we think that where she really excels is in her performance wear.  That said, there's always a chance of a miss.  A huge one for that matter.

We adore the Met Gala.  It's perhaps our favorite event of the year when it comes to fashion because you get to see what all the singers and actresses and celebrities of all varieties are going to choose to don for the all-important night.  And they have their choice of the literally straight-off-the-runway looks that were presented merely months earlier.  So when photos started rolling in we were incredibly excited to see what made the cut (check back soon to see coverage of our favorite looks!) and what didn't.  We just so happened to be in Barnes and Noble the other day and Vogue's Special Edition is out with coverage of our favorite event.  The first thing that caught our eye?  "Dear god, Rihanna is hot.  I am in love with this look, she nailed it."  The second thing?  "Is that Rihanna's mom?  Do they let you bring your mom to the Met Gala?"

We would have to say that the clear winner here is Rihanna.  Hands down.

Oh.  Wait, is that Beyonce?  It IS Beyonce.   Ummmmm...

Okay, so in the interest of being sensitive to the matter, 1) We're sure the dress seemed like a good idea at some point in time.  It just desperately needs more tailoring.  We actually quite like the idea and sheer is very on trend for the moment.  2) We feel that it needs a little clarification.  Are those shorts?  Hot pants?  Or a very very very short skirt and that's why she's standing like she's trying to hold the hem down so the world doesn't see her lady parts when the wind blows?  We're confused.

Is it shorts?  Or a skirt too short for even Beyonce?  We can't help but think that it's not particularly flattering on one of the hottest women on the planet.
We would, however, like to point out three more things.  1)  We love the little half veil.  The drama that isn't completely over the top is the perfect compliment to otherwise simple eyes and a wine stained lip.  2)  We can appreciate that she took a risk.  Though this is far from our favorite look it would have been far worse for a woman like Beyonce to be boring.

Givenchy or not, it's just not our favorite look!  Beyonce has the ability to sizzle on the red carpet and this is just not up to par.
3) She was going up against Rihanna.  Even for Beyonce, that's some tough competition.

Rihanna knows exactly how to wow on the red carpet and this white Stella McCartney number is no exception.  We're in love.
Rihanna has nailed the red carpet almost every time she has graced it.  Far from boring, she pushes the limits and tries just about everything.  You can feel her self-confidence through your computer screen.  And even when we look at just this one example, we can't find a single thing that we would change with this look.  From the the front it's stunning with the jeweled collar and long sleeves, from the back it is flawless with the ruching on the seat and open back.  We don't think she could have done any better.

From the dress to the hair and makeup to the accessories we can't help but think Rihanna looks flawless.

The close-up shots show nothing short of perfection either.  The juxtaposition of the messy hair and the flawless makeup and gown are sheer perfection.  Her devil-may-care attitude has won fans over since day one.  And we can't help but appreciate the fact that she went simple with her accessories, letting the dress and her ink do all the talking without saying a word.

If this was a head to head battle, we would have to say the hands down, no-question-about-it winner is most definitely Rihanna.  Better lunch next time Beyonce!
