Alice + Olivia

Spring at Alice + Olivia

Although the brand started from a gorgeous pair of pants, these days Alice + Olivia is best known for their beautiful yet (relatively) affordable cocktail dresses.  The Spring 2014 Collection was full of short, fluffy skirts, beaded tops, cropped knit tops, long cotton ball skirts, evening gowns...it was a little all over the place.  Florals, patterns, bold colors, lace, beading, ruffles - apparently the logic for this collection was more is more.

When you look at each piece separately there are elements that inspire - the short, layered black skirt is adorable and would look great with many pieces we already own while the colorful cotton ball skirt is a charming and laid back version of fancy.  Unfortunately some of the other pieces feel uninspired. It's not that we don't like the collection it's just that it doesn't feel that new and that's what we look forward to when it comes to runway shows.  That said, we wouldn't hesitate to add some of these dresses or separates to our already overflowing closet.

While certainly pretty, the embellished dress isn't exactly the most original design but we do love the black and white ensemble especially when paired with quirky accessories to give the outfit a little extra edge.

Crop tops aren't going anyway for Spring 2014 - take inspiration from Alice + Olivia and pair a beaded crop top with a long sheer skirt to balance out proportions or a marbled knit top with a matching pleated skirt.

These cotton ball skirts are our favorites from the collection; prints and colorblock in a laid back texture take the formal silhouette to a day appropriate look.

Formal gowns are a staple at Alice + Olivia - in florals, sheers and ruffled lace, romantic silhouettes were abound.
