It's not like we really need an excuse to buy a new bag but if there's one readily available we'll take it. Like a new season for example, it's the perfect reason to shop around for a new addition to your handbag wardrobe. We'll help you identify the top new trends for Spring 2014 to help you choose your favorites.
Fringe
Don't think western, think chic. Either a little or a lot, color or neutral, fringe bags are a great way to update your look for Spring.
Choose fringe for lots of movement like this Celine orange and white bag or Valentino's toned down black version |
The New Structured Bag
Move over traditional boxy bags, the new shape for Spring reminds us of art portfolios: rectangular and thin. Choose traditionally chic black and white or other neutrals or be bold and pick a print or bright color to stand out from the crowd.
These portfolio shaped bags keep you on the cutting edge of fashion - try black and white like this Chanel number or a neutral tone like Sonia Rykiel |
Step outside the box with an updated shape AND a fun color like Miu Miu's turquoise version or a print like Jean Paul Gaultier |
Slouchy Silhouette
If you're one of those people whose purse always seems to weigh 10 pounds then consider one of Spring 2014's super roomy and slouchy bags. Who knows when you might need a letter opener? And you do take notes on that adorable pad and no, it is not your fault that people don't remind you not to steal their pens. These bags have more than enough room for notebooks, makeup bags, iPads, water bottles and whatever else you can come up with.
Need a bag with room for everything? Hermes and Maiyet are on the same page and make sure you can take everything you need or want with you |
The Pouch
Not an entirely new idea but definitely more prominent this season than we have seen in the past, the pouch (similar to the bucket bag) was seen everywhere on Spring 2014 runways. If you're looking to step outside the everyday purse mantra and try something new this one's for you. Choose darker colors with interesting details to keep the overall effect grown-up chic.
One of Spring 2014's newcomers, the pouch adds interest and drama with fun details like those from Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent |
